This summer we did experience a couple of racoons setting up shop in our back shed. When they took off we sprinkled some whole cloves in the area where they were sleeping and I don't think they've been back since.

Secure all trash can lids with bungee cords. Remove any outdoor food left open for pets, deer or squirrels. If the raccoon is unable to easily access a food source, he may leave on his own.
Raccoons are able to live in a wide range of habitats. The only apparent requirements are a source of water, food, and a protected area for denning.
