It is fantastic! You can share and use recipes along with viewing related how-to videos. You can also make a shopping list and a menu planner all on the same site. Professionals and beginners use this networking venue. I have already posted one recipe but I just signed up so I have many more to share. Take a look:

A good diet is so simple but yet so easy to slip off of when the comfort foods of winter take over. I've discovered this winter that I have slipped into some bad habits and I don't think I'm doing my brain or my waistline any service.

Here's an article by Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen on Brain Food-Brain Power

Let's take care of our Brains!homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-64571638084294953192012-02-14T12:59:00.000-08:002012-02-14T13:02:09.974-08:00Learning to Play GuitarAll my life someone else has played the guitar for me. It has either been a friend, my husband or my father. I realize my time is running out as I get older and I may be left to fend for myself one day. So I had better learn to accompany myself. I guess I never committed to it because of the tender fingers learning a guitar causes until they toughen up of course. Today was my first guitar lesson and I'm trying to teach myself.

If you are looking for online lessons, here is a link that teaches for free.homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-44214761591342137872012-01-17T16:56:00.000-08:002012-01-17T17:00:38.260-08:00Caring for Cast Iron Pots and PansI just purchased my first cast iron skillet. It said non-stick and so it was. However, I am now learning that when using cast iron, one must not use high heat and also one must cook fatty foods in the skillet for the first while to help with the seasoning.

Here is detailed instruction on caring for cast iron pots and pans.homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-2124212557791107232012-01-10T14:49:00.000-08:002012-01-10T14:56:48.595-08:00Learning to use my Crock PotTonight I've put the first recipe in my new Crock Pot. I'm cooking a 3 lb. blade roast on high for 5 1/2 hours. I hope that's enough time because I put it on a lot later than I wanted to. Here's a video from ifood.tv for roast beef sandwiches Italian style. Looks great. Can't wait to try a turkey breast recipe I saw on Youtube in my Crock Pot next. I know it took me a long time to get a crock pot but I really need it now since I'm way too busy some days to cook a substantial meal. Feel free to leave any of your slow cooker recipes in the comment section.homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-58821412413535512172011-12-29T17:33:00.000-08:002011-12-29T17:35:53.337-08:00Removing WallpaperI cannot believe it's been 5 years since I put the Spongebob wallpaper border on my son's bedroom wall. First I have to organize my DS curriculum and looks like that's my morning task.

With our basement being re-organized, I have a pantry to design. I really need a pantry and I am having one custom built. Here is a design I found online that uses baskets on wheels and clear containers which is very accessible and easy to see what is in the pantry.

I'll add more to this post later. Hopefully, I will feel more organized by the end of tomorrow. As a homeschool mom it just never ends but purging is one rule I have on my list to keeping me sane in this area.

That plan includes building muscle and cardiovascular strength in my body. I have been using the Pilates Boot Camp with Mari Winsor and it has been a tremendous endurance strengthener for me. It's only 20 minutes and it works great! The other routine I do 2 - 3 times per week is Gunnar Peterson's Core Secrets Boot Camp Workout DVD. I friend gave me this one and I cannot find the exact link to it but here is his website: http://www.gunnarpeterson.com/

Overall, I am feeling stronger since I started in March the above routines. Another challenge is to replace the electrolytes that have been lost from sweating. Sometimes I just come in the house from gardening and pop under my tongue a natural sea salt crystal or two, let it melt and then drink water. I don't do well on sugar so drinks like gatorade would not do it for me at all.

Another great concoction is put together by my ND at her website here. She illustrates how to put together a drink to restore electrolyte balance. It includes the following ingredients:

1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tbl. agave nectar (or maple syrup or honey)
juice of half a lemon
1L water

you can add a bit of a berry concentrate at the end to taste but it's not necessary.

I have to admit that I haven't tried this yet but it does look tasty.homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-37678463867641381562011-06-20T04:51:00.000-07:002011-06-20T04:55:29.929-07:00PerimenopauseI guess I've reached that age between 45-55 where I am noticing symptoms more pronounced than previous years. Try to use wooden, leather, or vinyl.

Keep indoor air dry. Try to keep the humidity level lower than 50%.

Wipe dust with a damp cloth and vacuum once a week. Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter.

Replace wall-to-wall carpet with wood or other hard flooring.

Keep stuffed toys off the beds, and wash them weekly.

Replace slatted blinds and cloth draperies with pull-down shades. They will not collect as much dust.

Keep closets clean, and keep closet doors closed.

Central heating and air-conditioning systems may be helpful, particularly if they include special filters to capture dust and animal dander. Change furnace filters frequently. Use of high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are most helpful in preventing mold exposures.

People who are allergic to animals may need to avoid keeping pets. If not, keep pets outside, if possible. If pets are allowed indoors, keep them out of bedrooms, off upholstered furniture, and off carpets. Frequent bathing and grooming of the pet (preferably by someone who is not allergic to the animal) may help.

Allergy to animals may also include wool, which may contain tiny amounts of dander (skin).
homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-50132700757185187802011-05-31T09:54:00.001-07:002011-05-31T11:37:22.673-07:00Lung Protocol for Blood Type BIt's that time of year again for allergens and humidity. Now I finally get to join the ranks of those who have received a speeding ticket. That first time is a shock and a bit traumatic. Having a cop car flash his lights behind me is one thing, but issuing me a ticket was very nerve racking if I may use that old term from my youth. So I finally paid the ticket after research about the pros and cons of fighting one. The officer was kind enough to reduce my fine so I don't think it was worth fighting in the end. However, that ticket will be on my insurance record for three years. I am not impressed. At least I will be watching my speed a lot closer from now on and also that I stop at stop signs and not just slow down. I think as we get more comfortable behind the wheel, we can let the rules slide and think we are immune. Not so!

Demerit Points

Speeding Ticket Consultation

Traffic Ticket Solutions

Why fight a traffic tickethomeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7418198016352634476.post-1234054890949728512011-04-08T18:24:00.000-07:002011-04-10T11:16:57.966-07:00Feasts of the Lord - Passover to PentecostIf anyone is interested in learning about what this Passover season is all about and how it relates to Christians, here is a well explained video series on YouTube.

Also:

Polycrates Letter to the Victor of Rome.homeschoolmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17600183316714652144noreply@blogger.com0
